Nigeria appears to have taken a landmark step in strengthening its emerging carbon market ecosystem as the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, unveiled the Carbon Market Association of Nigeria (CMAN) at the Nigeria Pavilion during COP30.
The Carbon Market Association of Nigeria (CMAN) has asked the federal government to de-risk carbon market projects to attract up to $3 billion annually in carbon finance over the next decade following the launch of Nigeria’s carbon market framework.

Tourba, a Nigerian agritech startup, launched carbon farming in 2024 targeting smallholders in Niger & Nasarawa. Through agroforestry and intercropping across 15,000+ ha, Tourba trains farmers over 18 months toward carbon certification readiness, scaling to 1M ha by 2030 across Kano, Kaduna & Bauchi.
Technical Overview:
18-month farmer onboarding module, Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) sequestration MRV, agroforestry tree integration, and direct carbon dividend payouts to smallholder farming families.
